Portrayals of Kami in Manga

Shinto kami are not an uncommon feature of manga, as one might expect from their significance to Japanese culture in general. This essay looks at the ways they are portrayed in an unsystematic sample of eight manga series: how they are drawn, how they speak, and how they are shown as behaving.
